Treatable problems with an eyelid lift
An eyelid lift can be considered for various reasons that go far beyond purely aesthetic concerns. Many people feel emotionally unwell due to their tired or sad look, which does not correspond to their actual state of mind. Medical factors such as restricted field of vision due to heavy upper eyelids or psychological pressure that leads to social withdrawal can also play a role. Bags under the eyes, dark circles and wrinkles on the lower eyelid can also appear at a young age and affect self-confidence. These changes in the eye area can be caused by various factors such as lifestyle, genetic predisposition and age-related loss of skin elasticity. An eyelid lift can not only improve the external appearance, but also increase the well-being and quality of life of those affected.
Precise technology.
Experience for optimum results.
Dr. Berkei and her experienced team use modern techniques for eyelid lifting, which are characterized by precision and individual adaptation to the needs of each patient. The techniques used combine experience, innovation and aesthetic sensitivity for the best possible results.
Upper eyelid lift
The upper eyelid lift technique used by Dr. Berkei and her experts is characterized by precision, experience and patient comfort. Performing eyelid surgery in twilight sleep ensures maximum relaxation and optimal results. The excess skin on the upper eyelid is removed using an elliptical incision, whereby care is taken to ensure that the incision is made discreetly in the natural crease of the eyelid in order to keep subsequent scars inconspicuous. The skin suture is performed using a continuous technique with fine thread material, and finally a bandage is applied with staple plasters. This unique method not only guarantees aesthetically pleasing results, but also your rapid recovery and a high level of satisfaction.
Lower eyelid lift
Dr. Berkei and her team use a differentiated technique for the lower eyelid lift that is tailored to the individual needs of each patient. They differentiate between purely sagging or wrinkled skin and protruding fatty tissue, which is often perceived as a“tear sac“.
Wrinkled skin can be tightened using the CO2 Fraxel laser, an innovative method that enables targeted wrinkle smoothing and collagen formation in the depths of the skin without leaving incisions or scars.
For lower eyelid bulging, Dr. Berkei and her experts perform a transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty, which involves making an invisible incision on the inside of the lower eyelid to remove excess fatty tissue and cut through connective tissue fibers. Depending on the loss of skin elasticity, an external CO2 Fraxel laser treatment can also be carried out to tighten and smooth the skin.
In cases of very severe excess skin, a lower blepharoplasty with an incision below the lash line and resection of the excess skin, the so-called lacrimal sacs, may be necessary, although Dr. Berkei and her team only recommend this technique in cases with severe wrinkling and sagging skin.

Dr. Berkei and her team are particularly concerned about optimal aftercare and the prevention of risks during an eyelid lift. With an upper eyelid lift, where incisions are made in the visible skin, there is often concern about scarring. To prevent this, Dr. Berkei and her experts use a hair-thin suture material and a special suturing technique. In addition, tapes and, after healing, silicone plasters are used as part of the B Safe scar care program. Swelling of the eyes is normal after the procedure, but it usually subsides within a short time so that the eyes can be fully opened and closed again. Bruising also disappears quickly, so that after about two weeks you are socially acceptable again and can even wear make-up. In addition, the procedure has no effect on vision, and Dr. Berkei has never experienced any eye injuries.

Most of our patients return to work after 14 days following an eyelid lift (office work). Women can use make-up, and we recommend that men temporarily distract from the minimal swelling that is still present by wearing glasses. However, if you have important appointments in front of the camera, in front of a larger audience or similar, where you need your body to be as healed as possible, then please wait about four weeks for these special occasions.
Do you want your eyes to look very natural after surgery and not have an operated look? We can tell you the exact cost of an eyelid lift after a thorough consultation. Dr. Berkei and her team often use multiple techniques to rejuvenate the eyes very naturally, such as surgical eyelid lifting with removal of skin, connective tissue and fatty tissue/muscle tightening, skin tightening with the CO2 or endo laser and nanofat transfer to improve the elasticity of the connective tissue.
As a rule, after an eyelid lift, scars are barely visible or no longer visible in around 80% of our patients after 3-6 months. Dr. Berkei and her team place the incision very precisely in your existing skin folds and offer a CO2 laser treatment of the scar on the side of the eye, which is visible in a few cases, after 2-3 months.
An eyelid lift can make your eyes look 5-10 years younger. However, time does not stand still. The position of the eyebrow and the quality of the connective tissue play a major role in this.
As you have to pull on the eyelid to insert contact lenses, we recommend wearing glasses temporarily for 4 weeks.
A pure eyelid lift can usually be performed on an outpatient basis if you stay nearby for the first night and are picked up personally by a family member or friend. You should not be alone at home for 24 hours after the operation.
Alternatively, the skin around the eye can be tightened using a CO2 fraxel laser or phenol peeling, for example. However, surgery with a classic incision is best suited for tightening the upper eyelid.
You can book an eyelid lift with Dr. Berkei either under local anesthesia or under TIVA anesthesia, which is used for outpatient procedures. Dr. Berkei recommends eyelid lifting under a short anaesthetic, as the incision can be measured more precisely on a patient’s relaxed face and patients find the procedure more comfortable.
During an eyelid lift, it is particularly important that the incisions on the upper eyelid are made directly in the skin fold on the eyelid or in a smile line on the side of the eyelid. The incisions on the lower eyelid are located approx. 1 mm below the lash line and run laterally in a smile line. This trick makes the scars almost invisible.
On the day of the operation, the incision is marked on your eyelid using magnifying glasses and a fine marker. In addition to the excess skin, a fine strip of muscle and excess fatty tissue are often removed during surgery. A special muscle tightening and support is performed on the lower eyelid with a special suture on the side of the eye. This is particularly important to prevent ectropion. They wake up with small narrow tapes on the incisions and can open their eyes and see. They may still have slightly blurred vision as they have Bepanthen ointment in their eye for protection during the operation. The stitches are removed after 7-10 days.
