The perfect implant.
Your dream breast that changes with you.
A change of breast implants may be necessary or desired for various reasons. The body’s reaction in the form of capsular fibrosis and the limited lifespan of the old implants often play a role. Over time, implants may lose elasticity, the breast may feel increasingly firm over a longer period of time, women may be bothered by visible rippling or the implant position may change, which can lead to displacement or slippage of the implants. In addition, reactions such as capsular fibrosis can occur, in which a capsule of connective tissue increasingly hardens around the implant, which can lead to hardening and deformation of the breast.
As experts in breast surgery, Dr. Berkei and her colleagues are familiar with the procedure as part of an operation with implants and perform the exchange of breast implants safely and precisely. Due to the special situation of existing implants, Dr. Berkei will advise you individually on the optimal choice of new implant, taking into account your previous experience.
Reasons for an implant change
Replacement of old implants with a limited service life
Older or poor quality implants may need to be replaced over time as they have a limited lifespan of around 10 to 20 years and are subject to various ageing processes. Modern implants often have a much longer or even unlimited lifespan and are only replaced in the event of health problems.
We have extensive experience of performing this operation for over 20 years with most of the world’s implant manufacturers and can give you an accurate assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of the implants offered by individual companies such as Allergan, Eurosilikon, B-Lite, Mentor, McGhan, Motiva, Polytech, Silimed etc. Our statement is clear and we explain exactly why we recommend which company for your new breast implant. Which implant has the least chance of slipping, the least chance of causing capsular fibrosis and the least chance of an inflammatory reaction, which implant feels naturally soft and not like a foreign body? These are the most important decision criteria.
Changing old breast implants with Dr. Berkei allows you to feel safe wearing implants even after many years and, if necessary, to choose a different implant size or shape based on your wishes.
Slipped implants
Implants or the breasts with implants can change shape for a variety of reasons, including gradual reaction of the body’s capsule, trauma or inadequate positioning during the initial surgery. If the implant pocket is too large during surgery, the implants with smoother surfaces sometimes have too much room to move and move when the position is changed. Patients are then bothered by the fact that their breasts shift to the side when lying down. If an implant slips or becomes deformed, this can lead to an asymmetrical appearance of the breast. In such cases, it may be necessary to change the implants in order to restore the position of the breast and achieve the desired appearance.
An implant change with Dr. Berkei can be carried out depending on the extent of the slippage and the individual needs of the patient. This can include a revision of the existing operation, cleaning of the implant pocket in the case of previous gel bleeding, loosening or removal of the capsule and insertion of an implant made in Germany with a special surface structure to reposition or fix the implant. In almost all cases, Dr. Berkei recommends a complete replacement of the implant, especially if the implant is damaged or other complications are present.
Pain due to body reactions (capsular fibrosis)
Implants should be changed if pain occurs due to a body reaction such as capsular fibrosis. Capsular fibrosis is a complication following breast augmentation in which the connective tissue around the implant hardens and thickens over a period of months or years. This can lead to pain, deformation of the breast and discomfort. It may be necessary to change the implants in order to treat capsular fibrosis and improve the aesthetic result.
To do this, Dr. Berkei usually carefully removes the old implants, their shell and, if necessary, the capsule via the old incision and replaces them with new implants, whereby you can choose implants of your desired size and are not restricted to using the old implants.
Foreign body sensation or desire for a different size
Some people feel that their breast implants become a foreign body after a while and therefore want to remove or replace them. This may be due to personal preferences or the perception of an altered body image. Another common reason for changing breast implants is the desire for a different size that arises over time after breast augmentation.
In both cases, Dr. Berkei can remove the implants or replace them with implants of the desired size and shape. Depending on your individual needs and wishes, other aspects such as the positioning of the implants or the type of material can also be taken into account. You will receive individual advice and your particular situation after breast augmentation will be addressed so that you can be satisfied with your appearance and body image in the future.
Over time, your personal perception of beauty and body image can change. Breast implants can therefore also be changed for purely aesthetic reasons, for example if you want to improve or change your appearance after some time. Some women even decide to have the implants removed completely because they no longer feel comfortable with the implant as a foreign body or because they prefer a more natural breast shape. Dr. Berkei and her colleagues will support you in your decision and, based on your past, advise you on which implant and which solution will make you feel good in the future.
Medical indications for an implant change may be if complications such as ruptures or leaking implants occur or if other health problems arise in connection with the implants. Capsular fibrosis, a reaction of the body, is sometimes experienced by patients as a rejection of the implants by the body; this can occur in some women after some time and make replacement or removal necessary.
Dr. Berkei and her experienced team plan and carry out breast implant changes carefully and individually. This includes a thorough consultation to understand the patient’s needs and wishes, a measurement and analysis of the breast shape, accurate documentation of the wishes and the selection of suitable implants for the desired breast shape and size. The procedure itself is performed using the latest surgical techniques to achieve optimal results and minimize the risk of complications. Dr. Berkei and her colleagues attach great importance to safety, quality and patient satisfaction in order to offer you, the patient, the best possible treatment.

Breast implants do not necessarily have to be replaced after a certain period of time, unless problems such as painful capsular fibrosis occur. Our breast implants can remain in place for decades as long as they do not cause any discomfort or aesthetic changes. However, we recommend having regular ultrasound examinations carried out close to home.
We generally use polyurethane-coated implants from Polytech, which are produced in Germany. One of the advantages of these is that they have shown very long acceptance periods in studies. This means that the implants could be left in place for several decades without causing discomfort. As a general rule, breast implants do not necessarily have to be replaced after a certain period of time unless symptoms occur. However, we recommend that you have an annual ultrasound examination of the breast.
The surgical fee depends on the individual findings and the extent of the operation. We will be happy to advise you on this in a personal meeting. At the end of the consultation, you will find out exactly what costs you can expect.
