When it comes to plastic surgery, trust is the greatest asset. With her “Berkei Safety Concept,” Dr. Julia Berkei, one of Europe's leading plastic surgeons, has developed a safety system that protects and accompanies patients at every stage of treatment. With over 26 years of experience, more than 36,000 treatments and a specialization in nose surgery, it sets new standards in aesthetics — paired with precision and humanity.

What makes the “Berkei Safety Concept” so special?

The “Berkei Safety Concept” defines every step of treatment in detail — from initial consultation to surgery to three-month aftercare. In doing so, we attach particular importance to the correct dosage of medication, exact wound care and precise schedules for changing bandages or removing threads.

Decades of experience for maximum safety

This concept is based on decades of experience and minimizes risks to barely measurable levels. It's like a flight plan: Nothing is left to chance, and every step is aimed at getting the patient to their destination safely and with perfect results.

How did your passion for flying influence your concept?

Flying, as in surgery, is about precision and planning. Every takeoff and landing requires strict checklists and maximum concentration — and I have incorporated exactly these principles into my safety concept. For me, the passion for both flying and surgery combines precision with deep responsibility for other people.

What makes nose surgery so special?

Nose surgery is the supreme discipline of plastic surgery. The nose shapes the face and is functionally crucial for breathing. A millimetre too much or too little can make the difference between a harmonious and an unnatural result. Even during my studies, I worked intensively on the anatomy of the head. I later studied with renowned surgeons in London and specialized in them. Today, I am part of a small group of experts working in this area all over the world.

Have there been any formative moments in your career?

Yes, the ten years in which I have operated on children in Myanmar with my “Medical Intervention Team e.V.” are among the most formative. We have operated on around 500 children with cleft lip and palate — often under extremely difficult conditions. These experiences have not only shaped my surgical skills, but also my empathy and understanding of the individual needs of each patient.

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty is not a question of perfection, but of harmony. When a person shines from within, the outside automatically becomes more beautiful. My job is to use natural results to strengthen my patients' self-confidence so that they feel in harmony with themselves.

How do you deal with unrealistic expectations?

Very careful. It happens that patients come to me with photos of celebrities and want exactly that look. I take the time to honestly and empathetically explain what is possible and what is not. The health of my patients always comes first for me — and in the long term, natural, aesthetic results count more than short-term trends.

Why is aftercare so important?

Aftercare is crucial for healing success and aesthetic results. In the three weeks following surgery, we provide intensive support to our patients. We regulate exactly when thrombosis injections are given, when wound plasters are changed and how the scars are optimally treated to achieve a perfect result.

How important is the relationship with your patients to you?

I see every patient as an individual. Many of my patients tell me how long they have wanted a change, often over years. For me, it is important that they feel that they are in good hands in my practice, that we set realistic goals together and that they are satisfied and happy with the result.
